Customer review of the Citizen MA9024-24E Promaster Hyper Aqualand diving watch.

I've recently taken up scuba diving and I've started to accumulate some dive gear.  I was surprised with a fathers day gift which was a dive watch.  I was given the Citizen MA9024-24E Promaster Hyper Aqualand dive watch.  This one comes with a black rubber watch band and the watch itself is two tone.  Stainless steel with some gold accents.  It has a digital display and is very classy looking.  I've used it several times while diving so I am providing my review of the watch.

Features

This watch does not come up short with the wide array of features it provides.  On the watch side it has the standard features such as time, date, day, alarm, and light.  These features all work great.  The light on the watch is dim but it really isn't a big deal.  If you need to use the light while diving then you are probably using dive lights anyways and in that case you'll see the watch just fine.  While diving the watch logs dive start time, end time, total dive time, surface time, current depth, max depth, average depth, and water temperature.  The temperature feature can also check air temperature while out of the water.  The watch can store 30 dive logs.  Citizen AqualandThen each time you dive after that the log for that dive replaces the oldest log on the watch.  The nice thing is that the dive logs can be transferred from the watch to your personal computer using a docking station that comes with the watch.  The watch also comes with software for storing and viewing the dive logs.  It is a very convenient way to keep a log of your dives because it also allows you to keep track of dive locations, dates, buddies, notes, and other additional information.  The logs do have to be transferred from the watch one at a time.  This isn't a big deal either because I usually just transfer them after each dive trip anyways.  The only downside to this transfer process is that the watch does not come with the cables needed to connect the docking station to your PC and it is not a USB connection.  I'll help you out here and point you in the right direction for those cables.  The docking station has a 25 pin female connector.  So you need a cable that has a 25 pin male connector on one end and the other end a 9 pin female connector.  The serial communication port on your PC will be a 9 pin male connector so that is why a 9 pin female connection is needed.  You can find a list of cables here that should meet your needs.

One additional feature some people find annoying is the accent alarm.  This is a great feature but the alarm is very sensitive and can go off by just raising your arm above your head while diving.  It's really not that bad and it reminds me to keep a good profile while diving.  It's also a little amusing to watch other divers try and figure out where the beeping noise is coming from.  It is a very nice feature to have when actually ascending from your dive and really helps in ascending at the right pace.

Price

This is a nice dive watch and it is well built so don't think it's cheap.  The watch retails for $500 new.  It can easily be found for $280 - $300 new so don't go and buy it at retail.  If your are going to spend $500 on this watch then you might as well just save your money and invest in a dive computer, but for $280 it's not a bad deal.

Reccomendation

I would definitely recommend this watch to those who are looking.   It's a great looking watch by itself and it's a great dive watch with a wide array of features.  The watch can be found all over the web.  Check out the Citizen MA9024-24E Promaster Hyper Aqualand for more information.
